Doypack Retort Pouches

When glass jars become a thing of the past, retort pouches come to the rescue. These pouches are easy to take on hikes, store in a backpack, and more. They are versatile for both storage and pasteurization of products due to their construction and materials.

Construction

Retort pouches are flexible food packaging made up of laminated layers. These pouches can withstand high temperatures and pressures, making them suitable for pasteurizing food in an autoclave. The Doypack is airtight, allowing products to be both preserved and stored for extended periods. The retort Doypack for autoclave sterilization is made from a metalized material with a thickness of 130 microns (12PET / 9ALU / 12OPA / 90CPP). It has a high strength to withstand the load during autoclaving:
  • Water Sterilization Cycle: 90 minutes, initial temperature 100-110 degrees Celsius, pressure 0.5-1.5 bar.
    • Sealing seam temperature 150-180 degrees Celsius. This procedure requires a special tool – an electronic sealer. It is not recommended to do this with improvised means, as it is dangerous and the pouch can be damaged. The size of a single pouch available at Utekho's store is 160 by 210 mm, with a bottom of 41 by 41 mm. The capacity or volume is 500 ml or 500 grams of product. Each pack contains 50 pouches.

    Storage

    Due to their hermetic properties, retort pouches can be purchased not only for canning but also for long-term storage of food products. The main factors that spoil food are moisture, air, and sunlight. Retort pouches do not allow any external factors to penetrate inside, so even without additional pasteurization, the pouches can store items such as tea, coffee, nuts, dried fruits, and dehydrated sets. Because of their construction and lightweight nature, both empty and filled pouches take up little space, unlike glass jars or their metal counterparts. Opening such a pouch is also much more convenient than other containers, as the process does not require a special key or device.

    Autoclaving

    Canning in retort pouches is no different from the process we are accustomed to seeing with glass and metal jars. Due to their properties, products can be directly canned in an autoclave in sealed retort pouches. Thanks to their flexibility, more retort pouches can be loaded into an autoclave than jars of equivalent volume. This increases productivity and reduces resource consumption (water, electricity, gas, etc.). The strength of the laminated pouches ensures not only high-quality preservation but also safe transportation and storage of food products. They can be used in industrial and craft productions, as well as for home use.
