Preparing Mulled Wine

Mulled wine is a traditional winter drink that warms you up and creates a festive atmosphere. During the cold season, it perfectly complements cozy evenings at home or friendly gatherings. Thanks to preparation in an autoclave using the "steam" mode, a concentrate for mulled wine can be made in advance and stored for a long time without losing its flavor. Ready-made mulled wine in a jar is a quick way to enjoy your favorite drink at any time without spending much time on preparation. Simply open a jar of concentrate, add an equal amount of wine, heat everything slightly, and the aromatic drink is ready to be enjoyed! 

The mulled wine concentrate has a rich taste and aroma achieved through a unique combination of spices and ingredients. The recipe uses wine (red or white), which serves as a rich base. The flavor of the wine is complemented by mandarin zest, which adds citrus freshness (lemon or orange zest can also be used). Honey adds sweet notes, while spices like cinnamon, cloves, and black allspice make the mulled wine's flavor multifaceted and rich. A slight tartness is added by barberry, and thyme emphasizes the drink's sophistication.

Such a concentrate for mulled wine tastes excellent as a standalone drink. It perfectly pairs with festive meat dishes, light snacks, desserts, or a cheese platter.

Mulled wine recipe for 3 jars of 0.5 liters.

Mulled Wine Ingredients

  • Wine (red or white)1.5l
  • Mandarin zest (lemon or orange zest)
  • Honey
  • Barberry
  • Black allspice
  • Cinnamon sticks
  • Cloves
  • Thyme

Step 1

In three pre-prepared 0.5L jars, place two cinnamon sticks each.

Step 2

Add black allspice and barberry to the jars.

Step 3

Place 5-6 dried cloves in each jar along with the other spices.

Step 4

Add sprigs of dried thyme to the jars.

Step 5

Add mandarin zest to the jars (lemon or orange zest can be used as well).

Step 6

Pour 1 bottle of red dry or semi-dry wine into the jars. Add honey.

Step 7

Grate some garlic into the hot mixture and add a few black and allspice peppercorns.

Step 8

Place the mulled wine concentrate in the autoclave. Cook using the "steam" mode with a special steam valve and follow the recommendations for this mode. Cook at 90 degrees Celsius for 10 minutes.

Step 9

Enjoy an incredible homemade mulled wine that rivals restaurant-quality beverages.
