What is the difference between the UTEH and CHE series?

UTEH and CHE black metal autoclaves are often compared with each other. At first glance, they really do look similar: both series have the same material and powder coating, are designed for home canning, and have a similar body structure and similar components.

However, in practice, there are several important differences between them that affect ease of use, the ability to work in different modes, and even which jars can be loaded into the autoclave.

Let’s look at the main differences between the UTEH and CHE series.

Neck diameter: 17 cm vs 15 cm

The first and most important difference is the neck diameter.
  • in the CHE series, the neck diameter is 15 cm;
  • in the UTEH series, it is 17 cm.
A difference of only 2 cm may seem insignificant, but in practice it is very important. Because of the smaller neck diameter, 3-liter jars do not fit into CHE series autoclaves. If you plan to preserve compotes, juices, cucumbers, or tomatoes in large jars, this can become a significant limitation.

In UTEH autoclaves, 3-liter jars are easy to load thanks to the larger neck. In addition, the increased diameter makes loading and removing jars, even smaller ones, noticeably more convenient. This is especially noticeable if you use the autoclave often or work with a large number of jars.

Another advantage of the larger neck is that the autoclave is easier to wash and maintain after use.

Lid and fastening method

The second important difference is the lid design.
  • UTEH autoclaves use a removable lid with bolt clamps;
  • the CHE series uses a classic clamping mechanism.
These are different approaches to fixing the lid, and each has its own features in use. Both options are reliable, but some users find it more convenient to work with a removable lid and bolt clamps, while others prefer the classic clamping mechanism.

Therefore, when choosing, it is worth focusing not only on the specifications, but also on which option will be more comfortable for you personally.

Steam mode: available in UTEH, not available in CHE

Another important structural difference is the presence of a ball valve.
  • the UTEH series includes a ball valve as standard;
  • thanks to this, the autoclave can be equipped with a steam valve and used not only in water mode, but also in steam mode;
  • the steam valve can be purchased separately in our store;
  • the CHE series does not have a ball valve, so steam mode is not provided in these autoclaves.
Accordingly, CHE autoclaves work only in water mode.

Heat-resistant handle covers

The last difference is the handle equipment.
  • UTEH autoclaves come with heat-resistant handle covers as standard;
  • they make carrying a hot autoclave safer and more convenient;
  • the CHE series does not include such covers;
  • however, if needed, they can be purchased separately and installed on the autoclave.

Thermometer placement

In the updated models of both series — UTEH and CHE — the bimetal thermometer is located in the lower part of the body.

This placement was chosen for a reason. It allows the device to measure the temperature of the water itself, rather than the air temperature in the upper part of the autoclave. As a result, the readings become more accurate, and it is easier for the user to follow the autoclaving mode correctly.

This is the same solution for both series, so there is no difference between the models in this point.

Which autoclave should you choose: UTEH or CHE?

If you need an autoclave for water mode only, do not plan to use 3-liter jars, and the classic clamping mechanism feels more familiar — the CHE series can be a good budget option.

But if you want to:

  • use 3-liter jars;
  • have a larger and more convenient neck;
  • work in steam mode;
  • use a modern removable lid;
  • get additional convenience already included in the basic configuration,

then it is worth paying attention specifically to the UTEH series.

In any case, when choosing an autoclave, it is important to consider not only the price, but also what kind of preserves you plan to make, which jars you use, and which operating mode is more convenient for you.
