Is it possible to preserve with ordinary SKO lids without starting pressure?

If you already use an autoclave, you know for sure: to work with standard seaming SKO lids, you usually need to create an initial pressure of 1 bar.

For this, a pump or compressor is used. But let's be honest — they are not always at hand, and the process itself adds extra actions and effort.

Yes, you can switch to Twist-Off or retort pouches. When preserving with this packaging, there is no need to create starting pressure. But many people remain loyal to classic seaming SKO lids — because they are affordable, familiar and proven over the years.

And here the question arises: is it possible to preserve with SKO lids without pumping up starting pressure and without risk for preservation?

It is possible! The solution is very simple — clamps for SKO lids.

Why do problems occur without clamps?

During autoclaving, high pressure is created inside. And it can become the cause of problems:
  • lids bulge;
  • deform;
  • or even come off the jar.
To avoid this, you either pump up starting pressure of 1 bar, or use clamps that mechanically fix the lid.

How do clamps for SKO work?

Everything is simple: the clamp securely fixes the lid and helps preserve the tightness of the jar throughout the entire autoclaving cycle.
  • the clamp securely fixes the lid;
  • does not allow it to shift under pressure;
  • preserves the tightness of the jar throughout the entire cycle.
As a result, you get stable preservation without the risk of defects.
How clamps for SKO lids work

Lower pressure — less load on the autoclave

The main advantage of clamps is the ability to work without starting pressure. This reduces the operating load on the autoclave almost twice.
  • with starting pressure of approximately 1 bar, the operating pressure reaches ≈ 4 bar;
  • without starting pressure with clamps, the operating pressure is approximately ≈ 2.2 bar;
  • the difference is almost twice.
Simply put — you protect your autoclave and save on repairs.

What does this give the user?

Clamps help not only to fix the lid, but also to make the autoclaving process calmer, simpler and safer.
  • less load on the autoclave body;
  • longer service life of seals and valves;
  • more stable operation of the equipment;
  • lower risk of breakdowns.
This is especially important for those who preserve often and want the autoclave to serve longer.

Why are clamps a must-have accessory?

Clamps for SKO lids are a small accessory that greatly simplifies working with an autoclave. They are especially useful if you want to preserve without a pump or compressor.
  • no pump or compressor is needed;
  • there is no need to create and control starting pressure;
  • they are put on the jar without additional tools;
  • they reduce the risk of mistakes for beginners.

Material and reusable use

The clamps are made of food-grade stainless steel, so they are suitable for regular use.
  • they are not afraid of temperature;
  • resistant to corrosion;
  • suitable for reusable use;
  • serve for years with proper care.
Bought once — use for many preserving seasons.

Work in steam mode

Another important advantage of clamps is the ability to work with ordinary SKO jars in “steam” mode.
  • clamps fix the lid during steam autoclaving;
  • help avoid lid deformation;
  • make the use of SKO in steam mode safe.
Important: without clamps, using SKO lids in “steam” mode is prohibited. Clamps are the only safe option for autoclaving "with steam" with SKO.

Thought-out construction

The clamp consists of three parts that are combined into a single system and reliably hold the lid on the jar.
  • easy to assemble;
  • reliably keeps its shape;
  • does not loosen under load;
  • does not require additional equipment for installation.
This is not a “disposable trifle”, but a full-fledged tool for a stable result during autoclaving.

How many clamps are needed?

Clamps are sold in a set of 10 pieces. One clamp is used for one jar.
  • 1 jar = 1 clamp;
  • the set contains 10 pieces;
  • for an autoclave for 32 jars, we recommend purchasing 3 sets.
Such a set will be enough for almost a full autoclave load and will allow you to conveniently work with large batches of preserves.
